Privacy Policy & Legal Notice
Who publishes Workout Timer Online, who hosts it, what happens to your data when you use the timers, and what the audience measurement and the advertising on the site do with cookies.
The Short Version
Every timer on this site runs inside your browser, and nothing you set in it is saved. Two kinds of third-party service are involved in a visit: audience measurement (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity), which shows us how the timers are used, and the Google advertising that pays for the site. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, neither sets a cookie unless you have consented.
- No account, no sign-up, no login
- Audience measurement, with consent where the law requires it
- No form: we never ask for your name or email
- Advertising cookies disclosed, and refusable
- Timer settings are never saved or tied to you
- We do not sell your data
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 September 2026. This policy explains what Workout Timer Online does — and mostly does not do — with your data.
What we collect on the site
Browsing the site and using any timer requires no account, no email address and no personal information of any kind. There is no contact form, no newsletter and no comment section, so there is no field in which you could give us your name or contact details. What the site does record is how it is used — which pages are visited and which timers are started — through the audience measurement tools described in the audience measurement section. The advertising that funds the site involves Google as a third party; what it does, and how to refuse it, is set out in the advertising and cookies section.
Your timer settings
Work and rest durations, rounds, sets, preparation and cool-down times, presets and the sound switch are handled by JavaScript running in your own browser, for the duration of your visit, and are not saved between visits: reload the page and the timer starts again from its defaults. When you start or finish a timer, pick a preset or switch to fullscreen, an anonymous event is sent to Google Analytics — the kind of event, the timer format, the name of the preset and the total length of the workout — so that we can see which timers are actually used. These events carry no name, no email address and nothing you could type about yourself.
Technical logs kept by the host
Like any website, this one is served by a hosting provider whose servers keep standard access logs. These logs may contain your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, and your browser and operating system. They are generated and retained by the host for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting, in line with its own retention rules and French law. We do not use these logs to build any profile, and we do not cross-reference them with anything else.
If you email us
When you write to contact@workouttimeronline.com, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include in it. That information is used for one purpose only: answering you. It is never added to a mailing list, never used for marketing and never passed to a third party. Correspondence is deleted once the exchange is closed, and in any case within twelve months.
Third parties
The site loads no external fonts and no social media widgets. It does rely on three third-party services, each described below: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for audience measurement, and Google AdSense for advertising, together with the consent message that Google provides for visitors in Europe once advertising is active on the site. Their code is loaded on every page; everything else the page requests comes from this domain.
Children
The timers are general-purpose fitness tools and are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting anything new — for instance if a saved-presets feature were added — this page will be updated before that change goes live, and the date above will change with it.
Audience Measurement
Two tools tell us how the site is used, so that we know which timers people rely on and where a page gets in their way.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, measures the pages you view, how you arrived (a search engine, a link, directly), your type of device and browser, your approximate location at country and city level, and the timer events described in the privacy policy above. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Event data is kept for the retention period set in the site’s Google Analytics account, which cannot exceed fourteen months. With your consent, Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_… cookies, which last up to two years. You can also block it on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Microsoft Clarity
Microsoft Clarity, provided by Microsoft, records how pages are used — clicks and taps, scrolling and mouse movement — to produce heatmaps and replays of anonymous sessions. It is how we find buttons people struggle with. The site has no field for personal details, so a replay shows the page and what was pressed, not who pressed it. With your consent, Clarity sets the _clck cookie (up to one year) and the _clsk cookie (one day). How long Microsoft keeps Clarity data is set out in Microsoft’s Clarity documentation.
Your consent
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, no measurement or advertising cookie that is not strictly necessary is set without your consent. Until you consent, Google Analytics runs in the restricted mode of Google Consent Mode, in which it sets no cookie. The consent message itself, provided by Google’s consent management platform, will be shown as soon as advertising is active on the site (this page is updated on that day); until then, no such cookie is set for these visitors at all. Refusing has no effect on access to any timer, and once the message is shown you can change your mind at any time:
There is no consent message to reopen at the moment: it is shown only to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and only once advertising is active on the site. Wherever you are, you can refuse these cookies in your browser settings or with the opt-out links on this page.
Advertising and Cookies
The timers are free because the site carries advertising. This is the one place a third party is involved in your visit, so it is described here in full rather than in a footnote.
Who serves the advertising
Advertising on Workout Timer Online is delivered by Google through the Google AdSense programme. Google acts as a third-party vendor on this site, and it may in turn work with its own advertising partners. We never see, receive or store any data those partners collect, and no advertiser has any influence over the content of a page.
What that means for cookies
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. Those cookies are set by Google, not by us, and we have no access to their contents.
How to refuse personalised advertising
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser has the same effect. Whichever route you choose, every timer on this site keeps working exactly as before — the tool does not depend on advertising cookies in any way.
Consent in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the consent described in the audience measurement section also covers advertising: no advertising cookie that is not strictly necessary is set without your consent, and the consent message will be shown once advertising is active on the site. If you refuse, Google may still show ads, but not ads personalised from your browsing. Refusing has no effect on access to any timer.
What advertising does not touch
Nothing you set in a timer is used to target an advertisement. The anonymous timer events described in the privacy policy go to the site’s Google Analytics account for audience measurement only.
Cookies
The site’s own code sets no cookie for visitors. The cookies you may receive come from the services described above, and in Europe only after you have accepted them.
Audience measurement: _ga and _ga_… (Google Analytics, up to two years), _clck (Microsoft Clarity, up to one year) and _clsk (Microsoft Clarity, one day). Advertising and consent: cookies set by Google and its partners to serve and measure ads and to remember your consent choice, described in Google’s list of advertising cookies. Your choice can be changed at any time with the cookie choices button.
You can browse every timer with cookies disabled entirely and everything will keep working. The timer itself stores nothing between visits — reload the page and it starts again from its defaults.
One further exception concerns the site’s administrator: signing in to the WordPress back office sets technical session cookies that are strictly necessary for authentication. These are never set for ordinary visitors.
Your Rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Loi Informatique et Libertés, you have rights over any personal data concerning you.
These rights include access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, data portability and the withdrawal of consent at any time. The personal data processed for us is limited to the audience measurement described above, which is pseudonymous — we cannot connect it to your name — and to any email exchange you start yourself. Measurement and advertising cookies are used on the basis of your consent where the law requires it; withdraw it at any time, with the cookie choices button once the consent message is shown, or in your browser settings. Google and Microsoft may process this data outside the European Union, including in the United States. Data processed by Google for advertising is also held by Google: to exercise your rights over it, use the opt-out routes in the advertising section or contact Google directly.
To exercise any of these rights, write to contact@workouttimeronline.com. We answer within one month. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority, at cnil.fr.
