Judo Timer FAQ

IJF contest times, golden score and the formats used by eight other disciplines are in our guide to round lengths in combat sports.

What is a judo timer?

A judo timer is a round timer for judo training. It runs a work interval for randori, uchi-komi or conditioning, then a rest period, and repeats for the number of rounds you set. Because IJF senior contests run four minutes plus golden score, most clubs build their randori rounds around that length.

How long is a judo round?

Senior contests under IJF rules run four minutes of regulation time, followed by golden score with no fixed limit when the score is level. Club randori usually runs four to six minutes with one minute of rest, while uchi-komi and drilling blocks are shorter — one to three minutes of work with about thirty seconds to change roles.

Can I use this timer for randori?

Yes, and matching the contest format is the point. Set four to five minute rounds with one minute of rest and run six to eight of them, rotating partners at every change. If you are preparing to compete, add a round or two beyond contest length so that regulation time starts to feel short.

Can I use the judo timer for uchikomi?

Yes. Uchi-komi suits short, dense intervals: thirty to sixty seconds of continuous entries, fifteen to thirty seconds to swap roles, repeated eight to twelve times. Set those values once and the timer calls every change, so nobody has to count.

Is the judo timer free?

Yes. The judo timer is free, runs in your browser and needs no account or download. Put it in fullscreen on a bench at the edge of the mat and the whole room works from one clock.

Can I create custom judo rounds?

Yes. Work, rest, rounds, sets, preparation time and cool-down are all adjustable, and the values you set stay put for the rest of the session. Round lengths for judo and eight other disciplines are collected in our guide to round lengths in combat sports.
