MMA Timer
A free MMA round timer for training, sparring, conditioning and fight preparation.
Set Your MMA Rounds
Choose your round length, your rest period and the number of rounds, then start the timer. The default is a 5-round fight format with 5-minute rounds and 1 minute of rest.
MMA Round Timer
Train with structured MMA rounds and rest periods using a simple online MMA round timer. Set your round length, rest time and number of rounds to match your training session.
The timer runs the round, signals the end, switches into the rest period and opens the next round on its own. Used as an MMA training timer, an MMA workout timer or an MMA interval timer, the format stays the same: you set the work and rest values once, then train without touching the screen again.
Mixed martial arts is trained in blocks that look nothing alike — five minutes of grappling, three minutes on the bag, thirty seconds of sprawls — and the one thing they share is that each has a length somebody has to enforce. That is the whole job of a round timer. It opens with a preparation countdown so you can get gloves or shin pads on, marks every transition with a sound loud enough to hear over a busy gym, and keeps your phone on the bench instead of in your hand.

MMA Training Rounds
An MMA session usually runs several kinds of round in a row, and each one wants a different setting. The engine is the same — a round, a rest, repeated — so all you change between blocks is the numbers.
Striking Rounds
Bag work, pad work and shadow boxing run well at three minutes with a minute of rest, which is long enough to work through combinations without the technique falling apart. Five-minute rounds are worth using in the weeks before a fight, because a striking exchange in the fourth minute of a round is a different problem from one in the first.
Grappling and Ground Rounds
Wrestling and ground work are usually trained at five minutes, matching the length of a championship round, with a short rest that keeps the pace realistic. Positional rounds — starting from the back, from guard, from the cage — work better shorter, at one or two minutes, so you get more resets and more starts from the position you actually want to drill.
Sparring
Set the round, the rest and the number of rounds before anyone gloves up, then leave the timer in fullscreen where both fighters can see and hear it. Neither partner decides when a hard round ends, which is the point: the intensity of a sparring session should change from week to week, but the format should not.
Conditioning Finishers
Short intervals with equal or shorter rest close the session: sprawls, shots, burpees, bag sprints. Ten rounds of a minute on and thirty seconds off is a ten-minute finisher, and it stays honest because the interval ends whether or not you are ready for it to.
Why Use an MMA Round Timer?
A dedicated MMA timer makes it easier to train with round-based intervals. Instead of manually watching the clock, you can focus on striking, wrestling, grappling, conditioning or sparring while the timer handles work and rest periods.
It also keeps sessions comparable from one week to the next: the same round length, the same rest, the same number of rounds. When your conditioning improves, cut the rest or add a round rather than guessing.

What is an MMA timer?
An MMA timer is a round-based training timer used to structure MMA workouts, sparring sessions and fight preparation with work and rest intervals.
How long is an MMA round?
MMA round lengths depend on the ruleset and training session. Common training presets use 3- or 5-minute rounds with a 1-minute rest period.
How long should MMA rest periods be?
A common training structure is 1 minute of rest between rounds, but you can customize the rest period depending on your workout.
Can I use this MMA timer for sparring?
Yes. Set the round duration, rest period and number of rounds to match your sparring session.
Is this MMA timer free?
Yes. The MMA Timer on Workout Timer Online is free to use online.
Can I create custom MMA rounds?
Yes. You can customize the work time, rest time and number of rounds.
Should I train 3-minute or 5-minute rounds?
Both, for different reasons. Three-minute rounds let you hold a higher pace and keep technique sharp, which suits striking and drilling. Five-minute rounds match the championship format and are worth using in a fight camp, because the last two minutes of a five-minute round are exactly the part you cannot rehearse in a shorter one.
Can I use the MMA timer for grappling or BJJ?
Yes. Five-minute rounds with a short rest work for both. If you mainly train grappling, the BJJ timer opens with rolling rounds already set, and the wrestling timer is set up for mat work.
Will the screen stay on during a long round?
Yes. The timer asks the browser to keep the screen awake while a session is running, so a five-round block will not go dark on a phone left at the edge of the mat. Fullscreen mode makes the countdown readable from across the gym.
